Yosemite Museum Gallery - Yosemite Renaissance 35 - February 21st 2020

An Important Note to our Artists, Patrons and Friends

2020 was a difficult year.  The Covid-19 pandemic had a serious impact on tourism, education, the economy and the arts, particular for museums, galleries, exhibits and other art events.  This was compounded by statewide fires, particularly the Creek Fire, creating additional hardship.  Despite it all, we feel that Yosemite Renaissance 35 was a success.

The pandemic resulted in the early closure of our exhibit at the Yosemite Museum, but we were able to complete the majority of the 2020 traveling exhibit. Our annual funding suffered, but we are still supported by Mariposa County, the National Park Service, Visit Yosemite Madera County, and generous donors who support our efforts and believe in our mission.

Yosemite Renaissance 35 (2020)

Yosemite Renaissance 35 was on display at the Yosemite Museum Gallery from Feb. 22nd to March 15th 2020. While the show was only open for three weeks, it was viewed by an estimated 8000 visitors. The traveling exhibit at Kings Art Center in Hanford was canceled, but the exhibit was shown both at Carnegie Art Center in Turlock, and Yosemite Gateway Art Center in Oakhurst, closing on November 15th 2020. Despite the pandemic, art sales were good, surpassing sales from the 2019 exhibit.

69 works by 67 artists were chosen from 840 entries.  The exhibit included paintings, prints, textiles,  mixed media, photographs, ceramics and sculpture, selected to inspire a new generation of people to understand, preserve and protect our wild lands and natural places.
